After much planning and finally being able to get our schedules together, our little gang of three (that became five), set out for our much awaited Malabon experience. My sister in law, Joy and our friend Rica De Jesus (of the famous Heart to Heart blog) decided we wanted to go on the Malabon Food Trip Tricycle Tour. At first it was just to visit the famed Betsy’s Cake Center, whose broas we love. But then, we were advised by Mayor Len Oreta’s wife Melissa and his sister Rissa, that we should do the food tour. This little journey around the area takes about four hours by tricycle. You get the chance to go to down and sit in each of Malabon’s food institutions to have a taste of what the City has to offer.
that’s the mayor and his wife in the newspaper as she conceptualised this project that has been approved by the DOT. all tricycles are registered with the LTO and PNP to deliver utmost service and safety to tourists
First stop at Betsy’s made us really full as Tita Betsy herself and her daughter Bessie rolled out the red carpet and fed us their specialties. After this, we only made it to two more places where we took home food as we were really stuffed. We will be back for another adventure.
Tita Betsy was only twelve years old when her mom Bella started this business. She has been doing this for forty years now. Here she is with her daughter Bessie.
a few of tita betsy’s bestsellers. egg pie and of course, broas, among others
our yummy lunch spread of her version of pancit malabon, mechado (filipino/spanish beef stew), ukoy (battered fresh shrimp and veggies), fish fillet and home made sauces
crispy lechon with condiments, still by tita betsy!
a dessert spread of broas and specialty cakes. mocha cake, ramona (3 layers consisting of chocolate mousse, yemma and butter cream), branzival (which is a combo of brazo de mercedes and sans rival) and toblerone sansrival
delicious pandesal (philippine dinner rolls) or our national bread!
pinoy style mini burgers were so yummy. tita betsy makes her own super good and soft bun that’s not for sale, boo! photo credit to rica de jesus. i lost mine
assorted cookies and sweets. the bestseller being their sans rival bites
Betsy’s Cake Centers efficient and cheerful staff in their matching, cool uniforms and hair bands
