Kurobuta Pork Steak is one of the many dishes I love doing. I make this when they are available at MARKETPLACE Rustan’s.
Kurobuta Pork Steak
Ingredients
- 4-5 fresh kurobuta loin steaks or pork steaks (a treat to have when available at Rustan’s)
- 1/3 cup good olive oil
-
2 tbsp. butter + some more for frying onions
- 5 calamansi squeezed
- ½ cup (or a bit more) soy sauce (low-sodium Kikkoman works well)
- Ground pepper
- 1 tsp. white sugar
- 1 tbsp. cornstarch mixed in 2-3 tbsp. water
- 2 large onions (sliced)
Procedure
- marinate pork in calamansi, soy sauce and pepper.
- slice onions (rounds)
- over med heat, fry pork (only) in olive oil and butter till golden brown (reserve marinade). Set aside
- in a separate pan, sauté onions in some butter over med low heat.
- add the pork, the marinade, sugar and cornstarch water, simmer till tender then serve.
* Tip: you can add ½ cup water while simmering if you want it more saucy and give it a bit more time to become tender.
