All About Champagne
I may not be a wine or champagne connoisseur, but must one really be? Nope. Especially not in my case. I feel that one must just try and experiment until they know what tastes good to them. I grew up with wine on the table, my mom having champagne occasionally and was given baby sips of dessert wine like Sauternes by my grandfather. It is what they called “dignified drinking” and not drinking to get drunk, ha ha.
Today, I do know what my preferences are. I enjoy French Burgundies for red wine and do love Champagne. Champagne originates from the Champagne region of France. It is a sparkling wine made out of grapes, following rules that demand a secondary fermentation of the wine in the bottle to create carbonation (those lovely delicate bubbles that tickle your palate).
Many vineyards make champagne today and like wine, some are more premium than others. Without pretending to sound like an expert, this is all just my limited knowledge and preferences.
They are not the typical ones you hear about or see around, but they are available here and some more competitively priced than what you are familiar with. Here are some of my favourites…
For intimate events, you may even reserve the space and work with them on a caterer of your choice. This evening’s caterer was Masseto—pasta and bar chow was served.
It is also nice that Premium Wine Exchange has events that further our knowledge and aim to share what they know with their customers and following. Here are some excerpts from an admired connoisseur, Eric Recto, who taught us a little bit about Champagne and some wisdom as well. Get your speakers or ear phones ready so you don’t miss a thing.
