The first ever Dinner in the Dark hosted by The Eye Society for Sight-Saving Month was held recently at the Cru Steakhouse of Manila Marriot Hotel. Cru Steakhouse also happens to be a partner of the Eye Society for the benefit of the Eye Bank Foundation of the Philippines.
I have heard about blindfold dinners abroad and have only seen them in movies or one of the episodes of Sex and the City. I must admit I have always been intrigued by this concept, so when I got the invite, I excitedly accepted. Trust the fun and dynamic Frank Briones to come up with this idea!
Our dinner that started with a salad and ended with dessert was very good. Cru’s soups, steaks and everything in between were delicious. But reality had set in, eating blindfolded was a challenge, a very big one. It gave me a glimpse of what it would feel like to not have my sight and throughout the dinner, I was reminded of how grateful we should be of our senses. An awareness has set in and what Eye Society is doing in raising consciousness on blindness is remarkable.
