LITTLE MERMAID, Harbour City, Hong Kong branch
I am not a dessert person but when I like something sweet, I totally obsess. It’s a rare occasion, but once in a while, it happens. Right now, this Japanese bake shop, is occupying my every thought and taking over my cravings. Everything I tried was divine. I have two favourites that I think I can eat non-stop for the next two weeks! These are the chocolate donuts and cheese bread. These mochi like donuts, dusted in chocolate powder with an oozing chocolate lava filling are just the right amount of sweet. The texture of the first bite, made me close my eyes in sheer delight. These donuts are not fried and thats what really intrigues me. They bake everything in-store and I tried to take pictures of the kitchen but the lady inside gave me dagger looks for being so nosey and curtly said, “no photos.” Boo.
Then there’s the cheese bread with a brie or camembert like filling. So chewy and perfectly balanced in taste. The cheese was not overpowering the bread, and vice versa. My daughter liked their fluffy steamed cake with maple syrup. She had it every day for breakfast. I also loved their rice flour bread. I can’t wait to try their other products.
The Little Mermaid bake shop falls under the MERMAID BAKERY PARTNERS Co.,Ltd. It originates from Japan and has 327 shops (mostly in Japan.) Several in Hong Kong (IFC, Times Square and Harbour City), as far as I know. I’m not quite sure where their other branches are. The only thing I am sure of is this; I really wish someone would bring it into our country.
I visited the Harbour City branch.
Harbour City Level 3, 3-27 Canton Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon.
I never thought that Little Mermaid was a Japanese brand. I always thought it was a Danish company.
I will try it next time I ‘m in Japan. Thanks for the tip.
I’m not quite sure but it’s definitely big in Hong Kong!
